
Leaving Napier we headed back inland along the "Thermal Explorers" highway to Rotorua. Based around a volcanic crater lake, Rotorua is most famous for the thermal activity in and around the town. Go to the local park and you'll find wooden fences keeping the public "safe" from steaming, bubbling mud pools. There are spectacular geisers as well but alas, Autumn has set in and it was pouring with rain...
